Go Nuts! with a free 50-page Duckbills issue

Fifty-page issue of Duckbills, the free newsletter, is ready to download now! Features new scenarios from Mike Reese, Q&A's, Bow MGs, Fire & Move clarification, added detail on MMGs, and campaign guidelines from Nuts! courtesy Ed T. of Two Hour Wargames.

I am considering "bolting on" to Tractics' DFM & Artillery Rules to Nuts! myself.*

Ed Teixeira, the owner of Two Hour Wargames (Nuts! publisher), and Mike Reese are buddies. We were very pleased that Ed agreed to provide the campaign guidelines portion of Nuts! to our gamers for free. We do not sell Nuts! but do recommend that you consider getting one of their campaign supplements.

Nuts! is unique in its approach to give gamers the option to choose the following "game styles" on the fly, changing from game session to game session:

  1. A gamer can play solo against the ruleset's "AI" opponent.

  2. Two gamers can play opposing sides.

  3. Two gamers can play cooperatively together against the "AI."

  4. Do you have three gamers? One could be the judge, and the others play in styles 2 or 3.

  5. Do varying numbers of gamers from week to week? One can shift between the above styles based on who shows up. When someone doesn't show, maybe they were at the field hospital!

  6. The narrative for the ongoing games can be based on a given theater but shift to another with time.

  7. One could even promote command levels over time... perhaps you start out as a grunt and work your way up to an NCO, then a tank crewmember, then a tank commander, a tank section commander, etc.

  8. Indeed, the RPG-lite aspect of Nuts! allows for either strict historicity or some "lucky" survivals.

  9. Maybe you have ideas on how to have different play styles!

Note: Neither Tractics nor Nuts! is oriented to point-driven games. Two ways to avoid points: have a judge. Or have roll on Nuts! tables to set the table as to the mission, terrain, and enemy forces!

*I realize that the Nuts! tank fire approach may be simplified compared to Tractics' Tank & Antitank combat, and that's great for those who want that. I prefer to spend a bit more time with the nuances of Tractics' DFM since the details drive the narrative. And the few extra moments of time draw out the excitement and tension!
