Brew Up
NEW: PRINTED (no e-edition)

Amazon
Color? Yes
$18.95 76-page, Perfect-bound
See the FAQ at the top for policies.

Brew Up's 2023 revised edition includes concise rules in a compact 6x9" format, plus pages of notes and references about vehicle and gun categories. Requires World War II wargame miniatures*, two ten-sided dice, and a tape measure. A few clarifications and updates have been added.

Get playing fast. Brew Up fits between its precursors, simpler Fast Rules, and more complex Tractics. Game Reference Charts (GRC) are spread throughout the book. Because the book has small pages, the GRC are not collected into compilation like the centerfold in Fast Rules and at the end in Tractics. Instead, they are free of charge as a PDF file you can download and print, or purchase a coil-bound GRC booklet from Lulu — GRC pdf & booklet do not include rules, just ten pages of Game Reference charts.

*Any scale of models will work, from 6mm to 28mm, most commonly 15 mm to 20 mm. Individual figures are widely used, but multiple men on a stand can work by marking casualties with a lichen "bush" or using the Team Fire variant. Each side's unit size is typically from a squad to a platoon (10-40 figures) per side and several tanks and other vehicles (like a platoon to a company, 5-17 vehicles). On a +/- 4x6' table, a ground scale of 25 meters per inch, or with small scales could use centimeters instead on a +/- 30x60" dining table.

NOTE: The Order from Amazon link is for Standard Color and for most of the world, but is unavailable in Australia or Japan; click either country's name to link for the Premium Color option instead.

Fast Rules includes concise rules, a NEW GRC (all Game Reference Charts, centerfold. in the printed edition and at the end in the Kindle edition), plus pages of notes and references about vehicle and gun categories. Requires World War II wargame miniatures*, just two six-sided dice, and a tape measure. A few clarifications and updates have been added. Royal size 6.14x9.21".

Get playing fast. The precursor of the much more detailed Tractics, Fast Rules is the simpler and faster ruleset—both back again! If you don't own a Kindle, download the free app for your phone or computer.

This printed version from Amazon is the same as Wargame Vault (below), 24 pages, in color but is Perfect Bound (square like a paperback book's binding) so here are the differences: 1) opening to the center's GRC, the book does not open flat; 2) there are 4 blank pages added to the usual 24 pages, 3) this edition may be less expensive or faster to deliver having more worldwide shipping points from Amazon.

This super-detailed map is based on a Michelin 1947 road map of Normandy with 3 levels of roads, town blocks & names, rivers, beaches (low & high tide lines), PLUS tons of info added: 20-meter contour levels, with capital ship anchorages (new in this edition!), naval gunfire range limits, forts, forests, swamps, drop/beach zones, bocage areas. Designed for miniatures gamers rather than a board game reference; the rivers do not follow the hex sides arbitrarily.

The map's actual size is 36.666" high by 90" wide and can be reduced or enlarged. When enlarged, the detail will not get grainy/fuzzy because it was drawn with "vectors" in Adobe Illustrator. Free FAQ mini-booklet explains the options and graphic details. Full-sized map: $9 or $22 without or with grid.

*Comes in several grid sizes, hexes or squares. Or buy the map with no grid so that you can add your own grid, perhaps. How big is it? If you get the 600-meter-wide hex version and enlarge the hexes to the normal wargame-standard 5/8" hexes, then the full map would be just over 5x12.5 FEET in size. I assume that many gamers will print small sections for a campaign game series. Or a giant game like Rommel described by Little Wars TV.

Subtitled, Brooklyn to Brittany & Back, this veteran's memoir covers Rupert Macpherson's first 30 years from 1914 to 1945. Childhood, falling in love, joining the National Guard in 1936 ("Silk Stocking" Regiment 107th Infantry, New York National Guard), and particularly focusing on his World War II service gives a feel for life in the first half of the 20th century. Has 39 photos & 1 map.

Leaving the National Guard he joined the 102nd Anti-Tank Battalion as a Second Lieutenant in August 1940 before the US entry of the war. They were short on both 37mm guns and ammo. So training involved yelling "bang" after "firing" his wooden gun His unit was redesignated as the 802nd Tank Destroyer Battalion in December with 75mm guns on M3 half-tracks. He ended the war as the G-3 (Operations and Plans) of the 83rd “Thunderbolt” Infantry Division which was part of Patton's army for a time.

Written at age 90, Rupert's amazing recall and attention to detail will give you an idea of how life was lived in years from the start of World War I to the end of World War II. Social, military & personal history come alive in this remarkable memoir. Addenda: he died a month short of his 100th birthday in April 2014.
